Event Power Distribution - Product Highlight Series

Posted by Jake Wright on 13/11/2019

This week in our product highlight series - Power Distribution! While we know this isn't technically a single product, some of our team love it so much that they've managed to convince me to add it to our product highlights.

Power distribution is often called, admittedly mostly by us, the unsung hero of events. While most people only see the mildly inconvenient cable ramps and bright blue and red plugs, there is a whole lot more that goes into powering any medium to large size event. This is especially true for any remote or outdoor events.

For some events there will need to be hundreds of meters, if not kilometres of cable running from onsite power generators. Depending on the scale of the event, there will be many different variants of cable required to get a sufficient amount of current from the source, to the wide variety of systems needing power across the event. The longer the distance the power needs to travel and the more items that need power, the thicker the cable needs to be. The thickest cable you would find at an event starts at over 35mm in diameter and will be split down through various distribution boards to eventually end up only a fraction of the size when it reaches its destination. Luckily, we have all the experience needed to power up even the most remote event.

When you hire equipment from us, we will always factor in the power distribution you require, and we can often include this completely free of charge. Small amounts of equipment, such as our custom party packages, will normally just need a household extension lead to power up. Power distribution only really comes into play when you need a serious amount of power in a lot of different locations.
