AV Xpert at The Ashwell Show 2024

The Ashwell Show is a popular local festival held at Elbrook Meadow, Ashwell, offering a variety of attractions for all ages. This fun day out for all the family is organised by dedicated volunteers and raises funds for local charities and community organisations. At AV Xpert, we have proudly partnered with this popular local event for a number of years, having initially been asked to provide a PA system for their main ring three years ago, and since then, having provided a broader range of audio-visual technology for the event, with continued improvements year-on-year. This summer, the focus for the Ashwell Show committee, was to provide an upgraded PA system to ensure clear communication and sound quality throughout the whole festival site. We collaborated with the team to deliver a comprehensive audio setup that would meet these requirements.
General Site Setup
In the early hours of the morning, before the show began, we had two event crew members on-site busily working away to set up the equipment and run the necessary power and signal cabling. A dedicated AV Technician was provided throughout the day to oversee operations and provide technical support throughout the event - playing audio for the various acts in the main ring, and ensuring microphone levels were set correctly.
The PA system across the entire site was powered by our 5kVA diesel generator, complete with a 20-litre tank of fuel, ensuring uninterrupted power for the event.
For the PA system, we provided 22 Apart MPLT62-G 2-way Long-Throw Horn speakers, placed strategically across the site, and sectioned into two zones, to cover the main ring and all other busy areas of the festival. This setup ensured high-quality audio reached every corner of the event space.
Main Ring Setup
The Main Ring was the central area of the show, hosting the main attractions and performances. For this event space, we installed 12 Apart MPLT62-G 2-way Long-Throw Horn speakers around the ring, powered up by a Dynacord C1800FDi DSP Amplifier.
We also provided a long-range microphone setup that included an Audio-Technica ATW-3212 C510 Wireless Handheld Mic Set for general announcements, an Audio-Technica Pro9cH Wireless Head-worn Sports Microphone set for use by one of the acts in the main ring (A fantastic falconry display!) and finally a long-range antenna distribution system ensured the range of these microphones well exceeded the limits of the festival site, so presenters and announcers could move freely across the site while maintaining clear and reliable audio and with no compromise on performance.
Dog Show Setup
The Dog Show Arena required a flexible and portable sound solution, so for this area of the Ashwell Show, we provided the four-pawed enthusiasts with their own self contained PA setup. For this, we provided a portable, battery-powered sound system, comprising two Mackie Thump GO 8” Portable Battery-Powered Loudspeakers which feature a wireless bluetooth connection for music playback, and a wireless Audio-Technica handheld mic system with a battery pack to power up the receiver, meaning no connection to mains power was required. This PA system was able to deliver a mobile and robust sound solution, offering ease of movement throughout the Dog Arena and the ability to make quick adjustments to the volume level, ensuring that the Dog Show ran smoothly and remained one of the highlights of the Ashwell Show.
